EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Asian American Pacific Islander Month committee hosted its final celebration here May 20.

The event featured Asian cuisine and entertainment by the Emerald Coast Okinawan Drummers.

Col. Joe Augustine, 96th Test Wing vice commander, said the month’s activities were about inclusion, in closing remarks.

“The Asian American and Pacific Islander communities bring pieces of their culture to advance America’s society,” he said.  “We want to continue to recruit and retain a workforce that feels accepted and celebrated for their many contributions.”

Sharing cultures in a military environment is important, said Senior Airman Nicole Fredeluces, project officer.

“The military is such a big melting pot,” said Fredeluces, a first-generation Filipino-American.  “Events like this allow us to appreciate and enjoy what makes all of us unique.”
