Tax season has begun and the Eglin tax center is here to help.

The Eglin Tax Center stood up Jan. 20 to service military members, dependents, DOD civilians and retirees in the local area.

In 2009, there were many new changes to tax law including the new home buyer's credit, making work pay, earned income credit, residential energy credits and unemployment compensation.

The Eglin Tax Center-trained volunteers assist members preparing and filing 2009 federal and state tax returns.

"We're here to provide tax filing to people for free. We do federal and state taxes here for free but the online free sites usually charge for state taxes," said Susan Reaves, Tax Center Director. "Our volunteers come from various agencies on base and off it as well."

Located in building 451, the tax center is open Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday is reserved for 1040EZ filing members. For all other times, call 882-1040 to make an appointment.
