Wildlife at home on the range

Endangered Species Biologist, Kathy Gault, 96th Civil Engineer Group, points out a cladonia perforata growing on the Santa Rosa Island Range July 14 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The organism also known as a “deer lichen” is part of the Florida sub-tropical ecosystem and is on the federal list of endangered species of the U.S. The 96th CEG’s, Jackson Guard biologists and volunteers track and monitor wildlife on the water range. The information gathered is used to avoid and protect wildlife during military test and training missions. (U.S. Air Force photo/Ilka Cole)
