COLONEL LANE R. HUMPHREYS
Colonel Lane R. Humphreys is the Vice Commander of the 53rd Wing, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The wing comprises approximately 2,200 military and civilian people at 22 locations throughout the United States. The 53rd Wing is responsible for fighter, bomber and remotely piloted air vehicle operational testing and evaluation, and tactics development and evaluation in the areas of electronic combat, armament, avionics and aircrew training devices. His command includes the air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons systems evaluation programs Combat Archer and Combat Hammer, as well as the electronic warfare evaluation program, Combat Shield. His previous assignment was as a senior policy advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Nuclear Missile and Defense Policy, Global Strategic Affairs, Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, the Pentagon.
Colonel Humphreys received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1991. He earned his navigator wings at Mather AFB, Calif., in 1992 and was qualified as a B-52H navigator in 1993. Previous assignments include tours as an instructor radar navigator and Formal Training Unit instructor in addition to a staff tour within the Air Room at Headquarters, U.S. Strategic Command. He served in Operations Allied Force, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom and is a master navigator with over 3,200 flight hours.
