Eglin's Soccer Champs!

EGLIN AFB, Fla. -- The 46th Test Wing defeated the 33rd Fighter Wing 1-0 March 24, to take the Eglin Soccer Championship . The winning goal was scored when a cross shot from one of the 46th players set up right fielder, Capt. Matt Dillsaver and striker, James Larue to collide with the 33rd goaltender, causing the to goalie to drop the ball which then bounced into the 33rd goal. The 46th lost to the 33rd previously during the second round of the tournament but beat them twice in a row in the finals to win the championship. The 46th Test Wing overall season record: 12 wins, 1 loss, 1 tie.

Memorial held for fallen EOD Airman

BALAD AIR BASE, Iraq -- Airmen remember their fallen comrade, Tech. Sgt. Anthony Capra, during a memorial service April 12, here. Tech. Sgt. Anthony Capra, was a 332nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician, who died in support of combat operations April 9. Sergeant Capra was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star, first Oak Leaf Cluster, for his heroic actions during his deployment. According to his medal citation, Sergeant Capra?s actions ensured the safety and freedom of movement for more than 41,000 coalition forces, multi-national contractors and local nationals. He contributed to the recovery and destruction of more than 24,000 pieces of ordnance weighing more than 26,000 pounds. Airman Garrett was part of a team that responded to an explosive device blast while operating north of Baghdad, Iraq. They assisted injured Airmen, secured the scene and detonated a secondary IED.The award is for Airmen who have been involved in direct fighting situations where they risked their lives in an enemy engagement.

Col. Eric Pohland, 96th Air Base Wing commander, pins a Combat Action Medal on Tech Sgt. Michael Becker, 96th Civil Engineer Squadron's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight. In May, 2005, Sergeant Becker was in a convoy in Iraq when a it was hit by a suicide improvised explosive device that blew up vehicle behind his. Two soldiers were badly burned, and Sergeant Becker and his team secured the site, and performed combat life saving actions and transported the wounded to a forward operating base. His team also performed the post blast investigation. The award is for Airmen who have been involved in direct fighting situations where they risked their lives in an enemy engagement.

Eric Pohland, 96th Air Base Wing commander, presents a gift certificate to Gabrielle Caggiano, the winner of the age 8 to 12 category of the Eglin Youth Art Contest at the base library March 11. The contest was sponsored by the Women's History Month Committee because it related to the theme of the month, "Women's Art - Women's Vision." Out of 48 entries, three winners were chosen from three age categories. Joe Blankenberger was chosen in the age 7 and under category and Amber Kaderbeck was chosen in the age 13 to 17 category. Soccer champions

The Eglin Eagles men's varsity soccer team won the seventh annual Defender's Cup Military Open Soccer Tournament played Feb. 15-17 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The Eagles defeated the host team, 5-1, to claim the crown.
