Chitra, Panama -- Maj. Darrell S. Grise, an Optometrist deployed to Medical Readiness Training Exercise (MEDRETE) Panama from the 96th Aerospace Medicine Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., uses a slit-lamp to look for cataracts and assess the health of the front of a patient's eye here at a school in Santa Maria, Panama 18 July. The MEDRETE is a two-week long U.S. Southern Command sponsored exercise designed to hone the skills of medical personnel while providing free health care in remote locations through partnership with host nation doctors. Celebrating Asian-Pacific Islander American Heritage Month
Col.l Eric A. Pohland, 96th Air Base Wing commander, signed a proclamation that officially established May 2008 as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month on April 22. In it, he lauds the significant contributions of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans to the greatness that is America. The proclamation calls upon all military, civilian and family members of Eglin Air Force Base to mark this observance by participating in base wide activities, sponsored by the Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage program committee.
