Dam trap

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – A beaver is snared in a trap set by wildlife biologists near a runway here. The dams attract waterfowl and insects, causing a hazard to aircraft taking off and landing. The beaver was later released at another location. (U.S. Air Force courtesy photo)

Bird's eye view

VALPARAISO, Fla. – Turkey vultures roost atop a cell phone tower in Valparaiso. The Bird and Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard program identified the vultures as a threat to aircraft taking off and landing at Eglin and the Northwest Florida Regional airport. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services and 96th Civil Engineer Group Environmental Management Natural Resources Branch, known as Jackson Guard, hung an effigy hung upside down to scare away the nearly 100 vultures that were roosting there. Longleaf Alliance experiences Eglin's natural beauty

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Roger Kennedy, Eglin fire management specialist, showcases the Premo MK III Aerial Ignition Device System that Eglin fire managers use to ignite prescribed burns from a helicopter to members of the Longleaf Alliance Conference Oct. 30. The Longleaf Alliance, established in 1995, is partnership between private landowners, forest industries, state and federal agencies, conservation groups, researchers, and other enthusiasts interested in managing and restoring longleaf pine forests for their ecological and economic benefits. Foam in the sewers
