It's that time of year again when Eglin's Housing area will be full of ghosts, witches and goblins. Halloween is right around the corner. Trick-or-treating is scheduled for Oct. 31 from 6 to 8:00 p.m., on Eglin main and in the Poquito Bayou housing areas.

While people are making their costumes, putting up decorations and carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, security forces asks that parents sit down with children and review safety tips. Children should wear light colors and have reflective tape on their costumes. Trick-or-treaters should walk in large groups and parents should accompany younger children at all times. Children should never enter a stranger's house or car.

Parents and children should map out a safe route and only stop at homes with outside lights on. Those giving out candy should leave porch lights on so children know which houses to visit. Remember, treats should not be eaten until they have been checked by a parent or guardian.

Halloween can be a lot of fun for everyone if trick-or-treaters remember to play it safe. Security forces and other base volunteers will be out in force walking around the housing areas during Halloween night providing a safe environment for all.

All base personnel need to be observant of their surroundings for suspicious personnel, vehicles and activities. Report suspicious activity to the Security Forces Control Center at 882-2502 or 2503 immediately.
