EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Tax Center here is open and offers free tax preparation services until April 18.
All base personnel, civilians, retirees and dependents can schedule an appointment to file their taxes.
In 2016, the Tax Center processed over 3,145 federal returns, saving Airmen and their families over $965,000 in tax preparation fees, according to Susan Reaves, 96th Test Wing tax specialist.
IRS-certified volunteers assist with filing federal and state taxes accurately.
The Tax Center requests customers bring identification, social security card, 2015 tax return, 2016 tax forms and bank account information to setup a direct deposit. If applicable, bring daycare provider name, address and childcare expenses.
Also, eligible students should bring out-of-pocket costs for tuition, books and fees for enrollment in post-secondary education.
Most refunds are issued within 21 days. However, due to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015, refunds containing Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit will not be processed by the IRS until mid-February.
Appointments are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 – 11 a.m. and 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays are reserved for walk-in clients.
The Tax Center is located in Bldg. 451 on N. 2nd St., Southwest of the McKinley Climatic Laboratory Hanger. For questions or to schedule an appointment, call 850-882-1040.
