EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Welcome to the mission report for the Air Force Seek Eagle Office. These are the tasks Airmen and civilians progressed on July - September.
July
Leaflet test drop
AFSEO led two successful B-52 leaflet bomb separation flight tests with 16 weapons dropped in total. The test flew from Edwards AFB in support of a quick reaction certification request by Global Strike Command in support of an urgent US Army psych-op tasking.
Bomb testing
In support of an urgent operational need, AFSEO completed all weapons certifications on the F-16 and A-10 for the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System. This certification recommendation provides low-collateral damage for moving target capabilities in support of ongoing combat operations. In all, AFSEO recommended 98 new configurations for certification and warfighters have effectively employed this weapon over 750 times in combat.
Warhead evaluation
The Mass Properties Measurement Facility measured 26 MK 84 warheads for arena test evaluation of production lot variants to determine if stockpiled stores have degraded effect over time. This process ensures that the warheads are ready to use when they are needed and without defect or leakage. The data can also help discover possible leaks at the earliest possible time.
August
Missile testing
AFSEO supported the first ever flight test of a weapons release of the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile AGM-158C on the B-1B in support of United States Pacific Command. This weapon provides a critical anti-ship capability and is similar to the the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range weapon.
September
F-15 software tests
AFSEO completed an elevated risk flight test to expand the operational envelope for F-15E for advance targeting pods and advanced air-to-air weapons. This test directly supported the Suite 8 fielding recommendations which is a multi-million dollar acquisition program upgrading the combat capabilities of the F-15E.
