EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- October is Domestic Violence Prevention Month. This year’s “Know the Signs” campaign is designed to help service members, military spouses and intimate partners build, maintain or strengthen their relationship and prevent domestic abuse.
“Domestic violence can impact more than just a victim,” said Capt. Jacob Garcia, 96th Medical Group Family Advocacy officer. “It can also affect one’s family, friends and their community.”
The campaign’s focus is to reach people as early in the relationship as possible, invite them to think about their relationship and consider whether it could be classified as healthy, unhealthy or abusive.
“A healthy Air Force begins with healthy families,” Garcia said.
Eglin’s Family Advocacy Program works proactively with the base community to promote understanding the signs of healthy, unhealthy and controlling behaviors; and offers ways to improve relationships through information, skill-building resources, counseling support and more.
The program also offers relationship and parenting classes throughout the year that promote healthy marriages and families.
