SHALIMAR, Fla. -- An operations and maintenance field hiring event was held at the University of Florida Research Engineering and Education Facility April 24-25.
The event was held to fill approximately 40 jobs, including positions in the test and evaluation fields with more than 130 job seekers attending.
The event was one of more than 161 events to fill job vacancies across Air Force Materiel Command in 2019.
“Our event fed into AFMC’s hiring initiative, to get the right people in the right places within an expedited timeframe,” said Juan Robinson, 96th Force Support Squadron, the event coordinator.
Subject matter experts from the 96th Test Wing and NAF Human Resources Office were present to recruit and interview candidates.
Applicants were paired with the appropriate recruiter, or recruiters, depending on area of interest.
Robinson said Eglin is trying to quicken the hiring process locally.
“The civilian personnel hiring process can be lengthy,” he said, of the at times six-month progression to bring a candidate on board. “We’re trying to find creative ways to do that faster.”
A successful January event in January was motivation to hold more this year.
The goal is to increase the number of candidates and interested attendees for future events, according to Robinson.
“This is another example of FSS providing ‘grand slam support’ to our base and surrounding community,” he said.
The event was advertised on social media platforms LinkedIn and Facebook, local newspapers and a local career source bulletin. Future events will also be advertised on these platforms.
