EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Airman’s Attic held its grand re-opening here Oct. 21st.
Base first sergeants recognized the need for a refurbishment of the facility and began the two-month update. The Attic was restocked and renovated with new shelving and a fresh paint job.
A complete inventory occurred of the items ranging from furniture, appliances, children’s toys, kitchenware and uniforms to better track items. The items were also organized into categories.
The first sergeants group updated the process for Airmen to E-5 and below to streamline picking up those much-needed items.
A new feature of the Airman’s Attic is the partnership with the local Goodwill. If an item is not available, Airman can receive a $10 voucher to try to find what they are looking for at a Goodwill store.
“It is a partnership with Team Eglin and the community we serve,” said Chief Master Sgt. Jamie Auger, 96th Test Wing command chief.
Civilians still manage day-to-day operations of the Airman’s Attic, but there are plenty of volunteer opportunities for units.
“This doesn’t happen without our volunteers,” said Auger. “They are the backbone.”
Master Sgt. Suzanne Martin, 96th Mission Support Group, played a big part in the Airman’s Attic upgrade. She said the team was motivated to make things better for their Airmen.
“It’s about taking care of our Airman and ensuring they have the resources they need,” said Martin.
The Airman's Attic is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If people would like to donate they may do so during operating hours. For more information, call the Airman's Attic at 850-882-3616.
