EGLIN AIRFORCE BASE, Fla. -- A Virtual College Fair was held here Aug. 17.
The Eglin Education Office hosted the online event. The attendees spoke to representatives from 50 colleges and universities about their educational pursuits in virtual meeting rooms.
Catherine Bonilla, an education office guidance counselor, steered the participants to the fair’s “breakout room” icon. From there, they chose from a list of colleges and universities and spoke with their representatives.
Master Sgt. Ian Marks, 20th Space Control Squadron, plans to complete a Community College of the Air Force degree with the American Military University.
“I talked with the AMU representative about degree paths and career paths,” he said. “He answered all my questions and his guidance was very helpful.”
Senior Airman Sarah Pinkney, 96th Comptroller Squadron, spoke with a Penn State University representative about obtaining a master’s degree in finance.
“I asked about tuition assistance and how that works with the GI Bill,” she said. “I found they have the program I need to complete my degree, so I was glad for that.”
Dr. Lisa Splinter, Eglin education services officer, said she hoped participants found the fair a valuable way to access higher education.
“The fair was an interactive virtual space, which enabled Eglin community members to participate from anywhere and to speak with advisors from schools, while taking action toward their educational goals,” she said.
