A basic lifesaving skills class was held at the base hospital Oct. 28.

The class offered training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use.

Subjects addressed included saving lives in emergency situations, environmental hazards and related illnesses.

Airman 1st Class Blake Edom, 96th Healthcare Operations Squadron class facilitator, said the training is critical when saving lives.

“The more base personnel who know how to use an AED, the more chances there are to save lives here and off-base,” he said.

James Jack, 96th Medical Group life support program director, said emergencies are still a reality in the current COVID-19 climate.  He encouraged taking self-protecting precautions when performing CPR.

“Personnel should be particularly aware of the breathing aspect,” he said.  “Use chest compressions-only CPR techniques.  If breathing for a victim, use a mouth barrier device.”

Classes are held bi-weekly at the hospital.  Anyone with base access can attend.  For more information, call 883-8080.
