The objective of Heart Link is to strengthen military families and enhance mission readiness. Understanding that spouses play an important role in re-enlistment decisions, which ultimately impact retention rates, a major program goal is to help spouses, especially those who have been with the Air Force five years or less, acclimate to the Air Force environment.

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Spouse Strong is a program designed to educate, equip and empower spouses here, both personally and professionally, and to celebrate common bonds by providing connection opportunities.

Michelle Cain, spouse of Brig. Gen. Scott Cain, 96th Test Wing commander, partnered with Tanquer Dyer, Eglin’s disability program manager, to create Spouse Strong in response to the needs and requests of base community spouses.

Spouses gather on the first Thursday of each month to gain insight into various topics, such home-based businesses and financial readiness.

Cain said though there are many helpful base resources available to spouses, it can be quite overwhelming for them to find and choose which ones are applicable to their needs.  She hopes Spouse Strong will streamline the process.

She added that some spouses experienced isolation and depression due to the pandemic and military personnel deployments.

“It is vital that we spouses lift each other up, show morale support for one another and ensure we have what we need to keep the home front grounded and functioning, while maintaining our own self-care and professional and educational desires,” Cain said.

Cain hopes the Spouse Strong meetings will strengthen Eglin’s spouse community.

“My first and foremost hope is spouses will connect with one another and know how to get the information and support they need,” she said.  “This will build morale, resiliency, and help our spouses become even stronger than they already are.”

Spouses with base access are welcome to attend.  Plans are in the works to make the meetings, held at Bldg. 2398, available virtually.  For more information, call 882-9060.
