With the start of the fourth quarter, base leadership has thrown down the proverbial gauntlet in a community service challenge to all base personnel. As of Oct. 1, units are encouraged to generate as many community service hours as possible through Dec. 12, with the winning unit receiving base-wide recognition and bragging rights.

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Airman and Family Readiness Center’s volunteer program offers eligible patrons on and off-base volunteer opportunities.

The AFRC maintains a list of agencies needing volunteers, said Monique Grant, volunteer program manager.

She said there are benefits to volunteering for both service members and civilians.

“Volunteering helps service members with career advancement and can lead civilians to employment,” she said.

On-base volunteer opportunities include the Loan Locker, Outdoor Recreation and the Tax Center during tax season.

Interested members can also volunteer at off-base agencies listed with the AFRC.

“I hope everyone who is eligible, will participate in the volunteer program and help out on or off base,” Grant said.  “Volunteering is always worthwhile.”
