Eglin moves to mission essential posture due to extreme weather

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - Due to potential extreme weather conditions in the area, Eglin will be in a mission essential posture beginning Jan. 8 from 6 p.m. to Jan. 9 at 6 p.m., with maximum telework authorized.

Mission essential personnel will report no earlier than 11 a.m. Jan. 9.

The threat of tornadic activity exists overnight Jan. 9 from 2 a.m.  to 9 a.m. Weather conditions will also include scattered thunderstorms, 63 to 69 mph winds, and periods of heavy rain that will bring two to four inches of rain, causing localized flooding.

As a result of this posture, the following areas will be affected:

  • The 96th Medical Group will be closed. All appointments and surgeries will be rescheduled. The Emergency Department and all Inpatient Departments will remain open. For urgent (non-emergent) healthcare needs, please call the Nurse Advice Line at 1-800-TRICARE.
     
  • The Child Development Center will open at 11 a.m., Jan. 9 for mission essential personnel only.
     
  • The Dining facility breakfast service will be closed Jan. 9. Grab and go breakfast items will be available during normal dinner hours Jan. 8.  Normal meal service will resume for lunch Jan. 9.
     
  • The Northwest Gate will close at 5 p.m. and will remain closed all day Jan. 9. Normal gate hours will resume Jan. 10.
     
  • Post’l Point will be evacuated by midnight Jan. 8.

Weather Safety Leave will be authorized for non-telework eligible personnel except for those deemed mission-essential by their leadership in support of storm preparation and recovery.
