EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Federal Voting Assistance Program works to ensure service members, their eligible family members and overseas citizens are aware of their right to vote and have the tools and resources to successfully do so, from anywhere in the world.

Unit voting assistance officers from across the base received the training Feb. 28 to help their personnel with the voting process in this election year.

Sara Hedlund, an FVAP representative from Washington, D.C., conducted the training.  The training equips UVAOs to get the right voting assistance to their people, Hedlund said.

Kelly Childs, Military and Family Readiness Center chief, and her staff offered voting information materials at the workshop.  She said it’s important for the Eglin community to vote in the upcoming election and take the opportunity to shape the future.

“When we vote, that’s our voice,” she said.  “That is our way to express ourselves and make sure our voices are heard.  When we don’t vote, we are stripping ourselves of that right.”

The center offers voting information throughout the election year.  For more information, visit the FVAP website, contact a unit voting assistance officer or call 882-9060.
