EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The 96th Test Wing’s protocol staff recently attended an immersive training course offered once every five years to further develop their capabilities in various protocol practices.
The Protocol School of Washington in Virginia provides in-depth hospitality training to protocol members across the Air Force.
Protocol is responsible for the Air Force decorum, customs and courtesies ceremonies, conferences, social functions, hosting distinguished visitors and honors afforded at military funerals.
“One of the greatest gifts we can give to others is our presence. It is far greater to inspire than to influence, and that is what protocol does,” said Linda Phillips, 96th TW protocol chief.
The team’s training focused on cross-cultural understanding, etiquette, protocol, communication, and leadership. The team was also introduced to the use of artificial intelligence in protocol.
The use of AI includes using a natural language processing application to write invitations, emails, and letters. It can also help create itineraries, speaker information, and notes to help increase productivity.
Phillips added Eglin Protocol already uses AI to create videos, events, and itineraries.
The goal of protocol is a glitch-free visit, function or ceremony where nothing is out of place and everything works as it should. It’s the work done ahead of time, so events appear to be seamless, effortless and without flaw.
“The magic happens behind the scenes in preparation and the planning. All that hard work pays off when you see something become successful,” says Phillips.
