Tax season is in full swing and the Eglin tax center is here to lend a hand.

The Eglin Tax Center opened Jan. 18 to assist all service military members, dependents, DOD civilians and retirees in the local area with preparing and filing 2010 federal and state tax returns.

2010 brought new changes to tax laws including healthcare provisions, first time home buyer's credit, expired tax benefits, residential energy credits and limited personal exemption.

"We're here to provide tax filing to people for free," said Susan Reaves, Tax Center Director. "Our volunteers come from various agencies on and off base and are here to answer any questions filers may have."

File forms are due April 18 instead of April 15 due to the Emancipation Day holiday in the District of Columbia----even if you don't live in the District of Columbia.

Located in building 451, the tax center is open Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday is reserved for 1040EZ filing members. For all other times, members can call 882-1040 to make an appointment.
