The 96th Force Support Squadron dethroned defending champs, the 96th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 54-45 at the base intramural championship game Jan. 19.

The game between the gold and the burgundy team was a close one throughout with one team scoring and the other answering right back. Sydney Sullivan and LRS's Stanton Simmons were the dominate players on the floor leading their teams in scoring with 19 and 20 points respectively.

After a half of back and forth scoring, the champs held on to a three-point lead 25-22.

The LRS team added to their lead by scoring the first bucket of the second half, but the momentum swung to FSS with 10 minutes remaining.  FSS took over the game with a 10-point lead thanks to back-to-back three pointers at the nine-minute mark.

LRS wasn't completely through yet and rushed back to within three points, 43-40 with more than six minutes to play, but that was as close as they'd get to the lead.

With each minute winding down, the game took on a frenetic pace as the ball moved quickly up and down the court.

LRS had to play catch-up with desparation shots, which only worked to FSS's advantage. With only a minute remaining, FSS led 50-43. Out of time and needing offense, LRS had to foul to stop the clock. FSS needed to make just a few foul-shots to put the game out of reach and they got them.

FSS became the new intramural basketball champs, 54-45.
