Help Eglin recycle: what to know

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --  As all of Team Eglin begins pitching in with trash disposal and recycling, the Eglin Recycle Center would like to ensure personnel know what is and is not recyclable.

The public squares are set in buildings throughout the base to collect recyclables. Each one is labeled to collect a certain material.

The public square labeled white paper only is for white paper only. This is a valuable commodity and needs to be separated from other paper products.

All other paper, (newspapers, magazines, any paper not white) put in the newspaper, magazine public square.

Plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass bottles can go in the public square labeled as plastic bottles/ aluminum cans.

Cardboard will be broken down and set behind the containers. Make sure all packing material is out.

The Recycle Center also takes shredded paper. Bagged paper can be set next to the containers to be picked up.

Do not place sensitive material that needs to be shredded next to the public squares. The Recycle Center is not responsible for sensitive material left at the public squares.

If you have sensitive material, box it up, mark it as sensitive, list a point of contact and a phone number and call the recycle center and tell them how many and where it is located (bldg number, office number). The driver will pick it up when he can.

The Recycle Center will take books, but please do not place them in the public squares. It makes the bags too heavy and will tear. Put them in a box and set next to the containers to be picked up. Toner cartridges can also be picked up. Set them beside the public squares, preferably in the original box, and it will get picked up.

Non-recyclable items are paper towels, napkins, tissues, containers with food in them, zip-lock sandwich bags, plastic silverware, Styrofoam, cd's, dvd's, vcr tapes, light bulbs, batteries, rubber, straws, film, plastic bags, notebook binders, candy wrappers, wood and clothing.
