It's that time of the year again when Eglin's Housing area will be full of ghosts, witches and goblins. Halloween is right around the corner. Trick-or-Treating will take place Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. on Eglin Main and Poquito Bayou Housing areas.

People are making their costumes, putting up decorations and carving out their Jack-o-lanterns getting ready for the scary night. 96th Security Forces personnel ask that parents sit down with their children and review safety tips. Make sure children wear light colors and put reflective tape on their costumes. Parents are encouraged to walk in large groups while trick-or-treating. Parents should accompany younger children at all times. Children should never enter strangers' houses or cars.

Together, map out a safe route so parents know where the children will be. Only stop at homes with outside lights on. People who hand out candy should ensure that porch lights are left on so children know which houses to visit. Children are cautioned not to eat treats until they have been checked by parents or guardians for safety.

Halloween can be a lot of fun if everyone remembers to play it safe. Security Forces and other base volunteers will be out walking the housing areas during Halloween night providing a safe environment for all. People over the age of 18 who are interested in volunteering with Security Forces as a member of the Pumpkin Patrol, please contact Senior Airman Horace Wilcox at 882-2556 or email horace.wilcox@eglin.af.mil.

As a reminder, all base personnel need to be cognizant of their surroundings. Immediately report any suspicious personnel, vehicles and activities to the Security Forces Control Center at 882-2502/2503.
