Eglin to host Energy Expo Published Oct. 13, 2010 By Mike Spaits Team Eglin Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla -- The Eglin Main Exchange parking lot will become a haven of energy innovation and information during Eglin's annual Energy Expo, Oct. 21. The Expo will give thousands of base exchange visitors a look at the future of energy use here, and how they can conserve energy in their workplace and home. It will also feature an all-electric Tesla Roadster capable of reaching speeds of 120 mph. The car's price tag is more than $100,000, and is just one of many loaners on display by Gulf Power and Eglin's other partners in the Expo, Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative, Okaloosa Gas, Chevron Energy Solutions, the Okaloosa Building Industry Association and Eglin's Recycling Center. "This Expo is really just one of the many exciting things the Eglin Energy Management office has planned to help the base meet the DOD-mandated energy reduction goals," said Teresa Jordan, Eglin Energy Management program manager. Each participating organization at the Expo will have educational displays and handouts to encourage and show how to reduce energy consumption. "The efforts we all make today will become more and more visible, and more and more commonplace in the near future to help sustain energy reductions well into the future," she said. In addition to the displays and handouts, Col. Sal Nodjomian, 96th Air Base Wing Commander will present $50 gift certificates to the Eglin Elementary School winners of an energy conservation poster contest sponsored by the energy management office. The Expo will open at 10 a.m. and close at 3 p.m.
