A new network linking up the entire Air Force logistics world rolls out here, August 12.

The Expeditionary Combat Support System will revolutionize Air Force logistics and change the way individuals do their jobs, according to William Rouse, ECSS Change Agent Coordinator.

The system will replace more than 100 of the legacy systems used to track equipment accountability, supply, chemical warfare, vehicles, funding, tools and even government purchase cards.

Logisticians and customers across the Air Force currently rely on paper
forms and data entered into hundreds of systems at different bases. ECSS will eventually be a single source of logistics information accessible from any base.

"The Air Force is transforming itself to provide faster, better and more efficient support to the warfighter," said Mr. Rouse. "Eventually, ECSS touch everyone on the installation and the Air Force."

Although it will be several years before ECSS is fully operational, Eglin is one of the first to begin implementation. MacDill, Hanscom and Ellsworth Air Force Bases are already using the system.

ECSS will enable users to view and manage all of its logistics resources around the world. Scheduling a repair currently involves setting a repair date without being able to ensure that the necessary technicians, parts, facilities and tools are available. ECSS will streamline this process and increase the availability of repaired items by providing an Air Force-wide view of available people and parts. Air Force logisticians will have what they need to get the job done, according to Mr. Rouse.

To help get Eglin ready, the ECSS team will conduct "kickoff" briefings Aug. 12 at building 1, room 204 from 9 -11 a.m., for senior leaders, and at the enlisted hall from 1-3 p.m. for mid level supervisors, union representatives and system users. Eglin senior leaders, managers, and future ECSS users will be introduced to the program's goals, schedule and impact.

"The ECSS will enable logisticians to accomplish their mission more efficiently and cost effectively," said Mr. Rouse. "The result will be an Air Force better able to provide its warfighters the right materiel at the right time."
