AAFES' senior enlisted advisor visits Eglin Airmen Published July 15, 2010 By Melissa DeLacey AAFES EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Chief Master Sgt. Jeffry D. Helm, AAFES' senior enlisted advisor, talked to Eglin Airmen on July 14, about the services and support AAFES provides. Chief Helm stated that the AAFES motto is "We go where you go," and that the command's mission is to support troops, wherever they are called to serve. AAFES is the 43rd largest retailer in the world and in 2009 made approximately $10 billion in sales; more than $547,000 was giving back to Eglin through the AAFES dividend program. That money goes to support Services programs including the golf course, outdoor recreation activities and bowling center. One of the topics brought up during the meeting was healthier options at the food courts on base. Chief Helm stated that a great option is Robin Hood which is at the Eglin Main Store and Mini Mall Food Court. He also suggested going to the Burger King website and trying the '10 Simple Swaps' program. The number one meal at Burger King is a Whopper with French Fries and a Coke, instead of fries Chief Helm recommended trying the side salad or Apple fries and a Diet soft drink. He went on to point out that the Eglin Shoppettes also offer pre-made salads, fresh fruit or fruit in a cup. The meeting was a chance for Eglin Airmen to ask questions about AAFES and have their voices heard and an opportunity for AAFES representatives to receive feedback. The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is a joint command and is directed by a Board of Directors which is responsible to the Secretaries of the Army and the Air Force through the Service Chiefs of Staff.
