As the 2010 hurricane kicks into full gear, accounting for Airmen and their families during potential natural disasters or crisis is a number one priority for Team Eglin leadership.

The Air Force Personnel Center accountability team will visit here to discuss the Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System June 29 at the Enlisted Heritage Hall at 1 p.m. They will discuss how AFPAAS can give leadership a better sight picture of where their people are regardless of their given location.

The AFPAAS system was implemented in 2009 to align Air Force reporting of personnel with the Department of Defense requirements for total force personnel accountability, including active duty Airmen and their families, reservists, guardsmen, civilians and contractors overseas.

"AFPAAS helps leaders focus on where the biggest impact is after a natural disaster or other crises so they can strategically allocate resources to effectively help affected personnel and make decisions that facilitate a return to stability as quickly as possible," said Brian Angell, Air Force Personnel Center Personnel Readiness Cell operations chief.

"As you may have read from media reports, 2010 supposedly will be an historic year for hurricanes," said Staff Sgt. Amanda Mercado, AFPC representative for the AFPAAS system. "We don't want to delay getting to our coastal bases and ensure they understand and are comfortable with AFPAAS."

To use the system, members log into https://afpaas.af.mil or call 1-800-435-9941 to report individual and family member status if affected by a disaster or crisis.
