Eglin's safety offices are revving up for the base's annual Motorcycle Safety Day training event March 12.

The event will kick-off with an introduction by Maj. Gen. C.R. Davis, Air Armament Center commander, followed by open discussions with local maintenance technicians, riding techniques, group ride training, a skills ride, best bike competition and concludes with a 60-mile group ride. The event is open to all riders at Eglin, Tyndall, Hurlburt and Duke Field.

"Our purpose is to ensure our riders continue to receive on-going motorcycle rider education and the tools necessary to employ safe riding techniques," said Joe Bailey, 53rd Wing ground safety manager. "Additionally, we want our riders to stay current on the latest motorcycle safety improvements, suggested maintenance requirements, and new product lines."

A new feature this year is the motorcycle simulator demonstration set up in the Eglin Enlisted Hall. Last year, the safety discussions were held at the conference center to a standing room only crowd of almost 300 riders. With a larger venue, 400 riders is a possibility, according to Mr. Bailey.

"If this event doesn't show you where base senior leadership stands on motorcycle rider training, I don't know what would," said Mr. Bailey. "Ride safe, ride smart. See you there."

Motorcycle safety day begins March 12 at 8 a.m. at the Eglin Enlisted Hall and is open to all riders.
