Bi-annual PT testing has arrived Published Jan. 14, 2010 By Samuel King Jr. Team Eglin Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Are you due to test? That's the question base officials are asking active duty Air Force members, now that the new bi-annual fitness testing has started. "Eglin warriors need to know when they need to take their PT test," said Chief Master Sgt. Thomas Westermeyer, 96th Air Base Wing command chief. "It is a new year and there are new rules in place." The 'new rules' are changes to AFI 10-248 that state beginning in 2010 Air Force members will test two times a year. Therefore, those who completed their PT test in July 2009 are due to take the test again this month. Even though test sheets may say a test is still current for a whole year, the data could be wrong. Standards, such as new scoring methods and exercise minimums won't take effect until July, but the testing must still be completed. The Air Force Fitness Management System, available as a link on the Air Force portal, has past scores and shows what the new standards will be in July. "The fitness management system is a useful tool but hasn't caught up to the Air Force needs and requirements," the chief said. "Since it doesn't show when an Airman is scheduled to test yet, the responsibility falls to them to find out. With the help from the UFPM, getting tested should not be an issue." For those interested, PT improvement classes begin at the Health and Wellness Center Jan. 15 from 2 -3 p.m. for core exercises and Jan. 29 from 2 -3 p.m. for upper body exercise.
