Doc, as he was affectionately known, was one of the pioneers of in the development of laser-guided smart weapons, the MOAB, or Mother of All Bombs as it is also known, and direct energy weaponry.

"While Dr. Register's technical capabilities were outstanding, they were not his only invaluable accomplishment," said H. L. Dimming, a retired Chief Scientist at the Air Armament Center's 46th Test Wing, who now resides in Shalimar, Fla.

"Dr. Register showed he was a rare breed for he proved himself to be a skilled and effective manager while maintaining his technical leadership and skills," he said, referring to the thought that scientists were not usually skilled, perhaps even adequate in the qualities essential to the management of people and resources.

Those strengths were the reason Mr. Dimming pushed to have the building designated in his name.

The building will be officially named after Doc Register in a 10 a.m. ceremony.

"There can be no doubt Dr. Register's efforts and accomplishments were invaluable to the Air Force and the military forces of our nation," he said.
