An Eglin Airman received the key to the city of Destin July 30 during their Red, White and Blue Celebration at the Destin Harbor Walk Village.

Sam Seevers, Destin city councilwoman and mayor pro-tem, recognized Staff Sgt. Elvan Rowe, III, and his accomplishments to our nation.

Sergeant Rowe is a system support administrator assigned to the 53rd Computer Systems Squadron where he is responsible for maintaining 42 network servers that support more than 2,000 users across 20 geographically separated units as well as customer support for the 53rd Wing.

"His community involvement is extensive and needed in the community," Councilwoman Seevers said. "Destin is proud of our closeness with our military bases and how we work together."

The sergeant provides his computer expertise to local Air Force Enlisted Villages and volunteers for other projects.

Sergeant Rowe has been stationed at Eglin for four years and has a total of 10 years service time. In May, he returned from his third deployment to Southwest Asia and served as the help desk NCO in charge at an expeditionary communications squadron.

He is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Information Technology and has already received Community College of the Air Force degrees in Construction Technology and Information Systems Technology.

The Red, White and Blue Celebration, held each Thursday during the summer, was not only dedicated to his accomplishments but to all things military - a patriotic choir group, three World War II-era T-6 Texan aircraft flyovers and a patriotic fireworks display.

Tech. Sgt. Robert Shomake will represent the 96th Air Base Wing Aug. 13.
