Maj. Gen. David Eidsaune, formerly commander of Air Armament Center and Program Executive Officer for Weapons, was recently honored by Florida's Air Force Association.

Gen. Eidsaune -- now Director of Air, Space and Information Operations at Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio--was notified he won the Jerry Waterman Award June 9, for significant accomplishments for the Air Force during the past year.

Responding to the news, Gen. Eidsaune said, "I'm grateful for the recognition but want to note that I share this honor with the men and women of Eglin Air Force Base, whose hard work and drive to be the best is the reason I was selected." During his time at Eglin, the general said he had three focus areas: mission, people and safety.

General Eidsaune said he's received kudos from warfigthers on "what we're providing them in terms of weapons systems" and that the armament portfolio is changing with the move to directed energy and laser weapons. He pointed out the amount of recognition the workforce receives at all levels and is pleased there have been very few serious accidents and injuries during his time here.

"Plus, our Class B accidents, which result in lost work time, are significantly less than previous years, so I think the safety message is getting out," he said.

General Eidsaune said a large part of Air Armament Center's success is due to support for the Air Force from communities surrounding Eglin AFB, which is at a level he said he's never seen in his thirty years of active service.

The award will be presented to the general at the state AFA convention later this summer.
