The base commissary has begun an extensive renovation and expansion effort to upgrade the entire facility.

The 19-month project is to better meet the needs of the customer and update many of the aging areas in the building, according to Luana Harris, Eglin commissary director.  The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2010, and Ms. Harris does not expect any interruption of service.

"The effort will be very beneficial to our customers in the long run, as it will upgrade all of our systems and decor," she said. "It will also make it easier and benefit the customers with our expanded product lines. Customers will see more product that currently we are unable to carry due to space constraints."

The project calls for interior changes including replacement of all product display cases on the sales floor and expansion of the meat, dairy, frozen and chilled sections. This means expansion of the sales floor by 6,000 square feet as well.

Coming with the expansion is a second commissary entrance, parking area and roof. With the change and new room, some sections will be moving like the deli/bakery area and the self-checkout lanes. The sales area will also look different with new décor and signage.

I understand it is and will be inconvenient for our customers, but please be patient as 'The Commissary is Worth The Trip,'" said Ms. Harris.  "This face lift of the Eglin Commissary is your surcharge funds in action and these changes will greatly improve the military communities' quality of life."
