Team Eglin lived up to the theme "Commitment to Caring" by raising more than $130,000 for the Air Force Assistance Fund this year.

"We're very proud of Team Eglin for their participation and willingness to give," said Col. Bruce McClintock, 96th Air Base Wing commander. "Our Airmen know how important it is to contribute to something that serves others rather than themselves, especially in difficult economic times."

Eglin personnel raised $130,732.29 for the campaign that ended April 6, exceeding the goal by 110 percent. All AFAF contributions benefit active-duty, Reserve, Guard, retired Air Force servicemembers, surviving spouses and families through four official charities: The Air Force Aid Society, The Air Force Enlisted Village, The Air Force Villages and The General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.

Capt. David Welch, 96th Medical Group, and 1st Lt. Edward De Iulio, 96th Communications Group, served as installation project officers, a first for both.

"It was extremely rewarding," said the lieutenant, adding that topping the goal by $11,000 was impressive, especially given the slow economy. "It all goes to help the Air Force family."

Just last year alone, the Air Force Aid Society at Eglin contributed more than $500,000 in aid for Team Eglin and dependants.
