"Education is our greatest opportunity to give an irrevocable gift to the next generation," - Ernie Fletcher

The base education center will provide just such an opportunity when it hosts an Education Fair on April 9 at the library.

The event will be a forum for anyone with base access to come by and get information about continuing education, according to Dr. Faith Womack, Education Services officer at Eglin.

"We want to help people make informed decisions about education," she said. "This is a chance to ask questions and discover what opportunities are being offered from a large variety of schools."

Eight different colleges (see list below) will have information booths set up to assist attendees. As an added bonus, the vendors have donated door prizes to be given out during the event, including a vacation certificate.

"What's so great about the colleges in the area is the wide variety of study programs and specialty areas available," said Ron Garriga, an education fair coordinator.

Area colleges offer broad programs, such as education, and engineering and information technology, to specialized programs like maritime studies, digital media/multimedia technology and professional aeronautics.

"With today's tough times, many people are looking to improve their profile and this event allows them to see the opportunities available," said Dr. Womack. "Without education you're not going to get to those higher levels."

The education fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and open to anyone with access to the base.
