Keeping one's living quarters tidy not only fosters a healthy sense of well-being, but can also win awards as a few base dorm residents found this week during quarterly dorm inspections.

Contracting specialist, Airman 1st Class Shimon Perez-Conde Gonzalez, 96th Contractor Squadron, received the Dorm of the Quarter award for going above and beyond normal room cleanliness.

"The premise of Dorm Room of the Quarter is to make it known to the Airmen that leadership genuinely cares about how they're living. It's always great to see Airmen take pride in their personal space,"  said Chief Master Sgt. Troy Engholm, 96th Air Base Wing command chief.

Dorm of the Quarter is a competition designed to recognize Airmen who uphold a hygienic standard of living and make their living quarters truly theirs.

Recipients of the award are selected every quarter after a routine inspection of the dormitories. First sergeants nominate those who've excelled in cleanliness and havecreated a habitable living space. The chosen rooms are subsequently be graded by the respective command chief.

Along with the recognition and accolades from the command chief, Airmen Perez-Conde Gonzalez received a one-day pass and other incentives such as an Army and Air Force Exchange Service gift certificate and gift cards to local businesses.

Though the incentives and awards were cause for excitement, for Airman Perez-Conde Gonzalez, they were only an added bonus to the comfort of a clean room.

"You can drastically improve your quality of life just by keeping your room clean," said Airman Perez-Conde Gonzalez. "If you leave your room a mess, often times that reflects in your professional life. If you leave your room empty, that is how you'll feel."
