Intramural Soccer Season kicked off Feb. 9, when the 308th Armament Systems Wing met the Air Force Research Laboratory for the opening game. The back-and-forth battle ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

"It was definitely an interesting way to start the season-with a deadlock," said Erick Baker, 308th ARSW team coach.

The AFRL drew first blood in the first half when Chris Hergenreter scored with a high kick that sent the ball over the goalkeeper's head and into the top of the net. Andrey Soloviev scored a second goal for AFRL on a surprise cross pass from a teammate.

The AFRL team carried the momentum at the end of the first half leading 2-0.

However, the 308th rallied to score one goal after another, tying up the game with nine minutes left in the second half.

As time ticked down, both teams pushed hard to break the standoff. The goalkeepers were tested several times. However, neither team was able to break through the other's defense.

"It was a fun and close game," said Baker. "We got off to a good start but they beat us to the punch and scored the first two points-it shows the determination of our team to come back and tie it."

Games are played Monday through Thursday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., on the soccer field next to the East Gate Shoppette.
