Col. Bruce McClintock, 96th Air Base Wing commander, will host the first Military Financial Readiness Challenge event on Jan. 14 at the Eglin Officers' Club.

The event, co-sponsored by the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy, will bring a full range of local, state and federal resources to assist military personnel and their families throughout the local area with the impacts of today's economy.

"This is the first time we've ever tried doing something like this," said Colonel McClintock. "But we know the pressures our people are under and we have the support systems in place to help them reduce that stress and get on the road to better financial health. Even in these tough economic times, we know we can help each other build wealth, not debt."

These events are designed to help military personnel and their families make direct contact with financial counselors and educators, subject matter experts in budgets and spending plans, credit management, debt elimination, housing loans and foreclosures, savings and investments, financial, and estate and retirement planning.

Military Financial Readiness Challenge kicks off 7:30 a.m. with event registration. The event will feature the one-of-a-kind keynote speaker Jordan Goodman and others who provide motivational talks about guarding against identity theft and information regarding your plan for a higher credit score. Hands-on workshop sessions by seasoned financial experts will provide information on developing a spending plan, controlling finances by avoiding debt, strategies for home buying and protecting against foreclosure, and making retirement a reality. Certified personal financial counselors will also be on site to answer questions and provide counseling services on-demand and by appointment.

All event workshops and counseling services will be provided at no cost to military personnel and their families attending this event. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. Service members and their families are encouraged to pre-register for the Military Financial Readiness Challenge online at www.militaryhomefront.dod.mil/service/conference.
