Col. Bruce McClintock, 96th Air Base Wing commander, recognized Airman's Attic director Bob White Nov. 14 for his dedication in running the organization.

The two met after Colonel McClintock was invited to the attic for a tour.

"I've heard some good things about this organization and I'm glad I finally got a chance to visit," he said.

Mr. White showed him through the rambling rooms of the Airman's Attic, which house furniture, household goods and children's items for personnel to take as they need to. The attic is open to servicemembers in the ranks of E-1 to E-5, although others can be assisted on a case-by-case basis.

A retired chief master sergeant and current member of the Hurlburt Air Commandos, Mr. White was previously the director of the Airman's Attic at Hurlburt Field.

"He offered his assistance when we received an overflow of personnel from Keesler AFB, Miss., and lots of people were donating items to the attic to assist them," said Lisa Splinter, volunteer coordinator at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center here. "He helped us organize the influx of donations that arrived here."

Mr. White has been involved with the two attics for about six years. This is his fourth year as the manager for the attic and he volunteered at the Airman's Attic for one year prior to that.

The next stop on the tour was a look at the towering display of boxes containing the annual Toys for Tots drive donations that are to be given away to servicemembers in need Dec. 2. The highlight of the tour was a display of three expensive bicycles that will be given away in a drawing the same day as the toy giveaway.

"These are high-quality bikes that will be going to some lucky children," Mr. White said.

After the tour, Colonel McClintock showed his appreciation for the tour by presenting Mr. White with a challenge coin.

"Mr. White, you served your nation in uniform and you continue to serve by your activities here," said Colonel McClintock. "We appreciate what you do."
