1st SOMXS claims Eglin Intramural Softball Championship

With tremendous effort, the 1st Special Operations Maintenance Squadron emerged the victors against the 96th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 29-11, for the Eglin Intramural Softball Championship June 19. 

Teammates from the 1st SOMXS earned a No. 2 seed in the final game with a standing of 7-2 to square off against 96th LRS. 

96th LRS played five games in three nights to earn their place in the championship game. 

96th LRS began the game with hot bats, rattling off hit after hit down the third base line and scoring four runs. 1st SOMXS responded with three runs of their own in the first inning. 

In the third inning, 1st SOMXS scored eight runs to take a 14-7 lead over LRS. 

"Our ticket to victory was a solid defense in the infield and outfield," said Staff Sgt. Ronnie Hart, 1st SOMXS coach. 

The 1st SOMXS team was able to hold LRS to only four more runs, while the offense scored 15 more runs. 

"1st SOMXS just hit the ball well and they deserved to win it," said Master Sgt. Jerry Wright, 96th LRS coach. "They were a classy team and beat all the top teams to win it."
