It's all in the family Published June 2, 2008 By Lois Walsh 96th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- When Tech Sgt. Shawna Meadows joined the Air Force in 1993, she followed her husband's footsteps into a new career. Now her daughter is following in her footsteps. Sergeant Meadows, the 96th Communications Group Senior Staff NOCIC, set the example for her daughter, Jessica, who is now Airman First Class Meadows with the Air National Guard. She works in material maintenance with the 183 Fighter Wing in Springfield, Ill. Airman Meadows was three years old when her mother enlisted because the sergeant liked what she saw of the active force while a dependent for five years. "I got tired of working civilian jobs when he had all the holidays off," she smiled. "I liked the camaraderie I saw." That was enough to influence Airman Meadows. "Both my parents are military," she said. "It felt right to carry on the tradition and it was a good choice to help with college." The Airman attends Parkland Junior College in Champaign, Ill., and appreciates the benefits the Guard affords her. "So far I'm loving it and would like to make it a career for the next twenty years," she said. She won't get an argument from her mother who says the Air Force was the right career move for her. "The Air Force has been good for me," Sergeant Meadows said.
