Changes underway at Eglin's finance office Published March 25, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Staciaachary 96th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- With the creation of the new Air Force Financial Services Center at Ellsworth AFB, S.D., the 96th Comptroller Squadron is transforming delivery of financial services at Eglin, along with other finance offices Air Force wide. By consolidating 'back shop' processing, more effective and efficient finance operations at base-level comptroller squadrons will result. The workload currently performed at each base migrates to the AFFSC by MAJCOM starting with Air Force Space Command and concluding with AFRES. When fully implemented, the transformation will generate about $210 million in savings to the Air Force. Although Eglin finance's back shop processing isn't scheduled to migrate until July 2008, the 96 CPTS has already sent six Airmen to the AFFSC. Those Airmen report that, while very busy helping the Air Force implement cutting-edge financial services delivery, the work is rewarding and Ellsworth's a great place to be. Initial consolidation of the back shop processing is designed to be seamless, and how customer service is provided does not change in the stand-up of the AFFSC. In October 2008, the Contact Center will come on line at the AFFSC. In this second phase, additional options for customers to get service, including Web self-service and 24/7 telephone contact with a finance expert, will be readily available. Much like other career fields, Airmen will see fewer finance personnel on base, but will have more flexibility in obtaining service through around-the-clock self-service and contact center options. Additionally, base finance will continue to offer walk-in service Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; however, customers will be encouraged to take advantage of the convenience of the new service delivery options. Air Force Financial Management is transforming the way it conducts business to better provide financial services in alignment with the Air Force's goal to ensure Airmen are provided outstanding financial services they expect and deserve said Lt. Col. Paul Sinopoli, 96th CPTS commander. "While it will be different for everyone when the AFFSC is fully implemented," Colonel Sinopoli said. "But today's state-of-the-art technology will help us continue delivering fantastic customer service at home and abroad. Besides, today's environment demands innovative solutions that generate savings so the Air Force can redirect resources to today's warfighters and modernize the fleet for tomorrow."
