The Team Lean Challenge kicks off March 3 Published Jan. 25, 2008 EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Air Force Materiel Command challenge is a base-wide program designed to help the AFMC workforce develop a healthier lifestyle. Utilizing the Health Risk Appraisal tool available at afmcwellness.com, TLC begins with a simple assessment of each participant's overall health. "Once they have joined the site, it will be their central source for information on the four dimensions of wellness as well as a place to enroll in TLC, log activities and accumulate wellness participation points," said Lt. Col. John Leitnaker, Chief, Health and Productivity Management, office of the Surgeon General, HQ AFMC. The challenge spans a three-month period, allowing participants time to instill good habits, build a routine and lose weight in a safe, healthy manner. The intent of TLC is to foster the Wingman concept by encouraging participants to work together to achieve their goals. Each team will consist of five members. Awards will be given to the team with the highest weight loss percentage and also to the team that accumulates the most points. Points are garnered for participating in classes and activities as well as for healthy eating habits. A complete list is available at afmcwellness.com. In addition, the base with the highest weight loss percentage will be recognized at the end of the competition. TLC is available to all active- duty and APF civilians stationed at AFMC bases to include tenant units. The program is not available at this time to NAF civilians or contractors. This year's theme, "Cleared for Take Off," will be highlighted at a base-wide Health and Fitness Expo / Feel Great in 08 at the Eglin Officers' Club on Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. unit 2 p.m. Weigh-ins for TLC participants, along with information on nutrition, exercise, stress management and more, will available. Participating agencies include: The Health and Wellness Center, Airman and Family Readiness Center, the 96th Medical Group, both the fitness and youth centers, and more. This is a one-stop shopping source for all of the information anyone will need to start the program. The "Feel Great in '08" Health and Fitness Expo is open to everyone, only the TLC has participant restrictions.
