Dropped fuel tank removed, clean up continues

The 96th Test Wing is scheduled to conduct an active assailant exercise Jan. 7 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The annual training exercise will take place at Eglin Elementary School and is intended to test emergency response plans.
EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – Eglin personnel safely removed the fuel tank Jan. 8 from the Niceville location impacted by the 96th Test Wing F-16 incident Jan. 7. 

The 96th Civil Engineer Group’s Spill Response team is leading the clean-up efforts currently underway.

“Our environmental management team is working diligently to clean up the affected areas,” said Col. Michelle Sterling, 96th CEG commander. “We are communicating our efforts with the homeowners and want to assure the community we are engaged in clean up procedures.”

Clean-up is expected to last several weeks.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation by an Air Force Safety Investigation Board.
