Eglin waterways restricted UPDATE

UPDATE: With renewed interest in the waterways surrounding the base picking up this Spring and Summer, the 96th Security Forces Squadron reminds anyone using the waterways, known as coastal restriction areas, that a specific permit is required.

People transitioning through or recreating in the those without permits will be pulled over, questioned and/or potentially cited by base defenders.  Failure to comply can lead to fines, possible court appearances and temporary suspension of recreational access privileges across the Eglin reservation.

To gain a permit, visit iSportsman.  Here is a how to guide to obtain a CRA permit.

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The waters around Eglin’s main base and range area are now considered RESTRICTED.

The posture change comes due to identified emerging air and waterborne threats against defense installations.

Based on these security concerns, the 96th Test Wing commander deemed it necessary the waterways conform to the same security posture as Eglin’s land areas.

The effected areas are:

Eglin’s main shoreline

Santa Rosa Sound North side (Hurlburt Field)

Santa Rosa Sound South side (Santa Rosa Island)

Camp Pinchot shoreline

Poquito Bayou housing area shoreline

Wynnhaven Beach

Here is the Notice to Mariners that provides more information.
