Speeding fines increase in Lewis School zone

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – School zone lights in front of Lewis School will activate from 7:05 to 7:40 a.m. and 1:55 to 4:25 p.m. starting Aug. 11 on school days.

The school zone located outside the East Gate is marked with signs and a 20-mph speed limit in both directions.

Fines have increased for people caught speeding. The minimum mandatory fines are as follows:

  • 1-9 miles over $153
  • 10-14 miles over $303
  • 15-19 miles over $403
  • 20-29 miles over $453
  • More than 30 miles over $603.

Drivers caught using a wireless device not in a hands-free mode in the school zone will face a $113 fine.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit outside these posted hours is 35 mph.
