EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – With the rising popularity of electric bikes and scooters, Eglin leadership launched a new safety campaign to ensure all riders are operating their devices safely and in accordance with War Department regulations.

The campaign educates the Eglin community on the rules for powered transportation devices to include e-bikes, e-scooters, and Segways.

Key rules for all PTD operators include:

· Mandatory PPE: A bicycle helmet meeting ASTM F1447 or Snell B-95 standards must be worn at all times. Full-coverage helmets, eye protection, gloves, and reflective clothing are highly encouraged.

· Authorized routes: PTDs may be used on installation bike paths, such as the five-mile bike path between the East and West gates. However, travel is strictly prohibited on Eglin Boulevard and Perimeter Road. Riders should use the provided trail maps to plan their routes.

Operational Rules:

· The maximum speed is 15 mph.

· Riders must not wear headphones or use cell phones while moving.

· Operating under the influence of alcohol or other substances is prohibited.

· Roadways may only be crossed at marked or regulated intersections.
