EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Former Air Force Office of Special Investigations member and U.S. Senator Arlen Specter once said, "The fundamental purpose of government is to protect its citizens," and his comrades in arms continue that mission.
Officials at the 9th Field Investigations Squadron seek sharp and motivated applicants to serve as special agents and federal law enforcement officers. The unit is part of AFOSI - a diverse organization comprised of active duty officer, enlisted, and civilian special agents at more than 200 locations worldwide.
AFOSI provides professional investigative services to commanders of all Air Force activities though felony-level criminal investigations and counterintelligence services, said a special agent with the 9th FIS investigations branch.
Airmen interested in cross training into the career field must meet the following requirements to be considered:
- Be a U.S. citizen, possess a valid driver's license, at least 21 years old and have or be eligible for a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance
- Have a passing score on the Air Force Fitness Assessment
- Possess a minimum general score of 44 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery
- Have at least 18 months of time on station
- Be within the retraining window if applying as a first-term Airman
- Be worldwide qualified with normal color vision
- Senior airman applicants must have completed Airman Leadership School with a staff sergeant line number to apply
- Staff sergeant and technical sergeant applicants must have less than 11 years of total active federal military service
- Enlisted applicants must have at least six months of their remaining enlistment and an overall rating of four or higher, no referrals, on their last five enlisted performance reports
Though subject to change, AFOSI doesn't currently consider volunteer crossflow officers, according to the agent.
Airmen interested in joining AFOSI may contact the 9th FIS at 882-5565. The squadron hosts a recruitment briefing open to all ranks every second Tuesday of the month.
