Memorial Trail to get facelift Published July 9, 2015 By Mike Spaits Team Eglin Public Affairs EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The 96th Civil Engineer Group will soon take the thrill out of driving to the base commissary on Memorial Trail. Anyone who's driven Memorial Trail is familiar with the rollercoaster-like dips between the base commissary and the FamCamp. Hit the dip at the right speed and you might feel like you're going airborne. "We're replacing approximately 500 feet of base material and asphalt where an old landfill once sat and has recently caused the road to settle," said Dan Robeen, 96th CEG chief of engineering. The road work is expected to begin July 13 and be finished by July 17. During that week, traffic going to the pharmacy, base exchange and commissary will have to access that part of the base by taking Nomad Way to Memorial Trail, while commuters attempting to reach the FamCamp or Stables will only be able to reach those locations by accessing the east end of Memorial near the Eglin main side.
